Hydraulic-Drive Sampling of Soil & Groundwater

EST performs soil and groundwater sampling using truck-mounted hydraulic-drive/percussion hammer equipment. Continuous-coring or discrete soil sampling can be performed to depths in excess of 30 feet (depending on subsurface geologic conditions, i.e. refusal). Hydraulic-drive soil sampling techniques minimizes the costs associated with the containment, transport, treatment or disposal of investigation-derived wastes.

Soil samples may be analyzed in EST's California-certified mobile laboratories to provide real-time evaluation of sample concentrations thus eliminating the wasted time and expense of unnecessary sampling and analysis. Data compilation is computerized on-site for rapid turnaround.

The EST Advantage
  • Rapid mobilization
  • Minimal surface disturbance
  • Truck-mounted and portable drive units
  • No soil cuttings

Decontamination Procedures

Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures include decontamination of sampling equipment to reduce the potential for cross-contamination

 SOIL SAMPLING
Soil Sampling methods include:
  • Continuous coring
  • Dual-cased coring for granular soils
  • Discrete sampling from a specific depth

Completion of Soil Borings

Upon completion of soil sampling, borings are back-filled using a cement/bentonite slurry and are completely flush at grade to match the surrounding surface.

The Piston Soil Sampler is used to collect discrete samples from desired depths.

GROUNDWATER SAMPLING

EST performs groundwater sampling using truck-mounted hydraulic-drive equipment. Groundwater samples may be collected using a drop-out well screen sampler or by installing a temporary one-inch PVC well in a two-inch bore-hole created using hydraulic-drive coring techniques.

Groundwater sampling methods include:

  • Drop-out well screen sampler
  • Temporary PVC wells
  • Bailer or pump sample collection
